About the Appalachian Reporting Initiative
The Appalachian Reporting Initiative was created by WEKU with the generous support of the Bluegrass Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. The mission of the ARI is to provide listeners with professional journalism about life in the coalfields and mountains of the central Appalachian region.
Our inaugural report is from Will Wright, Eastern Kentucky reporter for the Lexington Herald-Leader. Will visits the Troublesome Creek Stringed Instrument Factory in Hindman, Kentucky where more than fine acoustic instruments are made.
