Dear Leader? America's Flirtation with Authoritarianism

If ten years ago you had told us that we would someday soon be hosting discussions about a plausible, accelerating shift in America from democracy to autocracy we surely would have doubted it. But the words and deeds of one of the nation's leading presidential candidates, former President Donald Trump, as well as the well-publicized plans of Mr. Trump's allies for the implementation of such a transition, must be taken seriously. Democracy is the bedrock of a free press. We're all busy with the day-to-day demands of life, leaving little time to ponder the implications of such a concentration of power and control. Our aim in this series is to offer information and observation from a variety of perspectives about the prospect of an authoritarian White House.
