Her 84 year old mother Vera Lisen was trapped for weeks in the basement of the Mariupol, Ukraine apartment building she had called home for 60 years. Lexington photographer Valeria Kaidanov moved heaven and earth to help her mother escape the war-devastated city. It was an arduous journey to the Ukraine border with Romania. Valeria was there to greet her and bring her to Lexington. She shares their story.
