RISE-Proposed Federal Prison in Letcher County

This episode of RISE focuses on the debate over long-standing plans to build another federal prison in eastern Kentucky - a region with the greatest concentration of federal prisons among the nation’s 93 judicial districts. A medium security prison and minimum security prison camp are proposed for financially stressed Letcher County and claims that prisons bring economic growth to distressed rural areas are in conflict with what the data tells us about the experiences of three other eastern Kentucky counties housing federal prisons.
